Unwanted “guests” traipsing across your property – Shoo them away with a home automation solution
Automated Yard Security
Nearly 15 years ago one of our clients was lamenting that people using the hiking trail near his home were cutting across his yard to get to and from the start of the trail. Since he had built his living room as close to the property line as possible, and used floor to ceiling windows, this resulted in a lack of privacy to say the least.
I suggested a solution that would keep them away automatically. We had the landscaper provide an additional line of sprinklers, pointed out past the property line. Our client insisted on a larger water line to shoot the water almost 20’. We installed sensors that triggered this “irrigation” zone, spraying water at anyone cutting too close to his property.
Of course we had to test the system, and since I was making the sensor adjustments, someone else had to walk into the spray. The owner was encouraged to put on his bathing suit and walk into range, which he had to do numerous times to get the settings just right. The site of him getting soaked over and over still makes me laugh to this day. Additional Integration Cost $ 430.00
Go Away Little Doggie
Are the neighborhood dogs coming onto your lawn to do their business? We can solve that using the same system as above. Getting Ray to do the testing might be a stretch…
Beach sand vacuum system: If you have ever lived by the beach you know that life is grand, with the exception of that pesky sand getting tracked into your home daily. There is a simple fix. We installed a recessed floor vacuum vent that was triggered to go on every time the door opened. This was simple to do and worked very well using the existing security door sensor and a bit of programming, Additional integration cost: $800.00
Automate Christmas: For many people, putting up Christmas lights is a tradition, but can be a neck-breaking hassle. Not only do you need to battle the cold and your fear of heights as you work your way around the edge of your home, but the task of getting your lights to go on and off at the appropriate time seems to be a moving target and a possible concern for your neighbors. A simple solution is to connect the lights to AC receptacles controlled by a lighting control system. This way you can take advantage of the built-in astronomical time clock which can be programmed to turn on/off the lights based on sunset and sunrise timing. Additional integration cost: $300.00.
Picnic on the Beach
One of our clients has a home on the water in a beautiful secluded cove with an expansive beach area that is a magnet for picnickers. He asked if we had a solution. We took a signal from the existing security beams that now trigger an announcement “you are now trespassing on private property” and sent through the existing outdoor sound system. Additional integration cost: $440.00.
You’ve got mail…in your mailbox: Have you ever wanted to know if that important letter or package has arrived? To one of our clients this was a big deal. We engineered a simple sensor within his mailbox that would send a message to all of the home’s in wall touchpanels that his mail had arrived. Simple and very effective. Additional integration cost: $500.00
I hope this gives you an idea of how powerful a “smart home” control system can be. Not every audio video integration company has the skills to pull these solutions off, so be sure to do your due diligence before you spend your hard-earned cash with someone who may be in way over his or her head.
